After thirty long days of traveling, we have reached our final destination. Canterbury is truly a beautiful place, and I can not wait to experience everything the area has to offer. The journey has been long, the obstacles have been difficult, and the memories will last forever. Each day presented me with a new opportunity; an opportunity to engage in the lives of others, and the opportunity to discover who I really am. In a few days I will depart from the people I have spent so many long hours with on the pilgrimage. We will all go our separate ways. But when we depart, each of us will have a little piece of one another in our hearts. We will cherish those we have met, as well as the lessons we have learned from the people we have encountered.

I woke in the middle of the night to the Nun’s screeching wails of agony. Her precious dog chased her most prized cat up a tall pine tree. The cat was too terrified to come down. She begged me to climb up after her feline friend. I wanted to tell the nun how much of a hypocrite she was, but I bit my tongue. I figured the Chivalric Code would want me to help the lady and her innocent cat. So I began shimmying up the sticky trunk of the tree. Suddenly the cat slipped and was dangling by its front paws. I climbed the tree as quickly as humanly possible. After what seemed like an eternity, I reached the frightened feline just in the nick of time. When I reached the ground, I looked down and realized that my brand new pajamas were covered with sap! My hair was full of pine needles! I spent the rest of the night picking them out and trying to salvage my pajamas. After all this, I came to the conclusion that it was worth it because I know Sir Knightlyhood would be pleased.
Around midday I ran into the Oxford Cleric. We decided to strike up a conversation and spend time with one another. This time I allowed him to pick the activity. Unfortunately for me, there was no dancing involved. We played an intellectual game of chess. This time it was the Oxford Cleric teaching me. Chess included numerous small pieces in different shapes. Each piece could move in certain patterns across a game board. The point of the game was to capture and wipe out the opponents King. The Oxford Cleric spent a long time explaining the rules and tips of the game to me. After I learned all of the rules, we played a few games. He beat me every single time, but in return I learned some of his secrets. He taught me how to use the castle to your advantage. I even learned how to put my opponent at check mate in four moves! So after losing several times to the Oxford Cleric, I challenged Sir Knightlyhood. With my clever new tricks I was able to crush him.

Advice for the day: Don't live in the past.
I made another attempt at making peace with the Yeomen today. We got up before sunrise and went to the woods, the whole way he told me stories of his great hunting successes. When I got to an area I felt confident in, I climbed up into a tree. The Yeomen said he would go about fifty paces west, and climb a tree. As the sun started rising, I could see some deer coming from the field east of us. They slowly moved closer, then stood under the apple tree for about an hour. Once they started moving, I noticed one was a huge twelve-point. The twelve-point happened to look up in the tree and see me. It took off running right towards the Yeomen. Then, an eight point that did not catch sight of me walked up, and reamained within shooting range. I pulled back my bow and released the arrow. In a flash the deer dropped. I went down and gutted it. The Yeomen walked up to me and said he spooked the twelve-point, and that he was unable to get a shot. I asked him if the deer had seen him in the tree. He was so confused, it turns out the Yeoman did not even attempt to climb the tree. He did not know he was supposed to, after all the Yeoman really didn't know much about hunting. The Yeomen confessed that he had attempted to poison me. He said he was jealous because I had gained a lot of attention, and that he was only a Yeoman. He asked me to forgive him, and I did. I knew that God and the Chivalric code state to forgive those who conspire against you, so I felt it necessary to forgive him.

I wonder how much longer this journey is going to take. It's been a month and Sir Knightlyhood doesn't even know when this journey will be finished. I can not wait until we find the area we are in search of. Traveling really takes a lot of energy out of me. Meeting numerous people a day can also drain you of energy, especially when they are as different as the Nun! I have heard several good stories on the journey, but, I have also heard several stories that were not appealing to my interests. Just how much longer can I deal with all these ridiculus stories? I know I shouldn't be so critical of all the others on the journey, because I have learned that the Code requires you to be kind to all. I would love to just get a day to myself to relax and study, without all the ridiculous drama and nonsense that occurs daily. When I become a Knight, I plan on being a person that noone will ever forget.

The weather was beautiful today, so I just had to go fishing on our midday break. The Parson told me about a pond he sighted, and said that he would like to catch enough fish to feed himself for a week. So I ate very quickly, and then begun to build a fishing-net. I used a rope to weave the net, and I used rocks for the weight, so the net would sink to the bottom of the pond. When I got to the pond, I slowly waded out into waist-high water. I saw a flash come near the surface. It looked like a three pound bass. I suddenly threw out my net, hoping for the fish to swim right to it. After it sank to the bottom, I began to pull it up very slowly. I wasn't having much luck, and it seemed like hours before I even had algae float into my net. After waiting for a long time, I glanced up at the sky. At that very moment, I felt a pull. I looked back at the water, only to notice that my net was being pulled further into the pond! I was having great difficulties trying to pull my net back. I tugged, and I tugged. I pulled as hard as I could. Finally, I got the net up, I must have caught nine bass at least. They all were very decently larged fish. I can not wait until I return and show the cook what he can prepare for dinner. He will be thrilled because he has been running out of ideas.

Aside from the jealousy the Yeoman feels towards me, this journey has improved as time has passed. The cook prepares meals daily that provide the necessary nutrients for the rough travels my body encounters. The Knight and I have created a new game to help pass the time on our long daily travels. We have shared so many memories that I will never forget. Sir Knightlyhood is going to be so happy to read these blogs, and realize the hardships that I suffered through to become a knight. I will forever cherish the friendships I have made so far on this journey. I hope to continue having enjoyable moments that will one day become great memories.

Today was the first that I have spoken to the Yeoman since he poisoned me. I felt that he poisoned me because my arrow skills were improving, and because he was jealous of the attention I have gained. I feel the Yeoman is also mad because I am going to one day become a knight, and he will never be more than just the Yeoman. If the Chivalric Code was not so strict, I would have already shown him up in a Squire Boy dance-off. Proudly though, I am going to keep my peace and let the whole poisoning ordeal go. Overall, I guess my feelings were just hurt. He was jealous about my love for God, as well as my goal of one day becoming a Knight.

After talking to the Parson yesterday, I can't help but feel that I'm looking at everything differently now. Having heard him talk that way about the pilgrimage, and about God, I have been moved to analyze and think about every action of mine. I mean, I thought I had been taking everything serious before, but boy was I wrong. I was just taking baby steps in this pilgrimage, and now I feel like I can do better, and I too can become a knight. Sir Knighlyhood is going to be so proud of how devoted I feel that I am. After this pilgrimage I hope to become a proud Knight like he is. I cannot wait for the opportunity to train a squire. I too will aide a young squire, just as Sir. Knightlyhood has helped me. I'd love to write more about this life changing experince, but I need to get back to the Chivalric Code.

When I was taking a walk through the woods, I saw the Parson. He was alone praying. I waited until he was done praying, then I took the time to ask him what had motivated him to be so dedicated to God. The Parson told me how Jesus Christ came to save him from his sins, when he was not worthy of being saved. He went on to tell me about the torture that Christ went through to save me. I felt very moved to think someone would do that for a squire like me. As I continued to ask him more questions about Jesus, he was more than glad to tell me about Jesus' love. He told me that Jesus had commanded to "love thy neighbor as yourself." The Parson was a man after God's own heart. He had given all his worldly possessions to those in need. He was content with his life because he knew he would be greatly rewarded in heaven.

So far on this journey, each day has enabled me to find more and more out about myself. As each day passes, our final destination becomes a little bit closer. Looking back on the days that have passed, I realize that I have gained so much from this experience. The past ninteen days have not only served as a test of perseverance, but they also have provided me with numerous opportunities to engage in new activities socially. Before the journey, I would have easily given up on tasks that had seemed difficult for me to complete. So far this journey has provided me with an enormous obstacle. Each day I continue to persevere despite the hardships I face. This journey has also allowed me to try out new activities that I previously would have shyed away from.

Its day eighteen and I am growing weiry. I think the Yeoman poisoned me. I am tired and worn out. Someone please come and save me. It feels like I have not had food for days and water for weeks. Bugs are crawling all over me. The word sleep has turned into sleepy and bad has turned into worse. Today I was very exhausted and felt close to death. All these feelings ran through my veins, until I met the Reeve. He helped me get back on my feet. He first tried to give me a job helping the serfs supervise the lord's land, but I was so worn out that I looked him in the eyes and proudly stated that I am a squire boy. I told him about the numerous hardships I have been through on this journey and he understood. I was very thankful for the Reeve's kindness in allowing me to get out of work for awhile. If the Reeve had not been there when he was, I might have been bear food.

I didn't get the opportunity to study a lot yesterday because I had been practicing my bow skills with Sir Knightlyhood. Today was my chance to finally catch up on my past studies that I had gotten behind on. I have been meeting so many people on this pilgrimage that I just needed the time to finish up my unfinished work. If I don't catch up, I won't be able to become a Knight. Although I have come to the realization that I need to find myself a woman that I can love, I have also realized that I must first and foremost become a Knight. We're getting closer to the end of this journey and I still haven't finished half of what I need to do. I need to stop writing this blog and start studying! However, I still feel that there is a lot left to document, concerning my travels. Okay, enough is enough, I'm going to go do my studying now!

I feel as if I don't give Sir Knightlyhood enough credit. Sir Knightlyhood, I believe is the best knight that any squire could study under. It has been told that Sir Knightlyhood, himself, is one of the best knights of all time. Today was the first time he agreed to shoot arrows with me after my little incident that occurred the last time. At first I had felt that I wasn't up to Sir Knighlyhood's standards. I felt like I had been letting him down. Sir Knighlyhood kept a pretty good distance away from me when it was my turn to shoot. This indicated to me that he was not yet comfortable with my skill level or my aim. After I had shot about twenty arrows, I think I gained back Sir Knightlyhood's trust. He seemed to have moved closer to me, which meant he knew that I was becoming a better shooter. Sir Knighlyhood asked me if I would like to ride alongside him, in one of the upcoming days, at the front of the pack. This was a very exciting day for me because I usually ride towards the back or at the very end.

I am sure I have met the most unique person that is traveling on the pilgrimage. After arising early, I noticed a Monk walking in continuous circles around the horses. I realized he was very restless, and noticed that he had been talking to himself for quite a long period of time. I asked him if he needed help with anything, but he only glanced up at me for a quick second. Soon after, I watched the Monk grab a bow and arrow and run as fast as he could into the woods. This action displayed to me that he had been rather removed from the affairs of the church, and was more concerned with his personal pleasures and material gains. The Monk returned from his hunting trip, and was already consuming large amounts of liquor before several others had awoken this morning. My encounter with the Monk was truly abnormal and unique.

I was happy to be heading to the doctors today to show him that I was walking again. I couldn't wait to explain to him how the merchant's dance had helped me heal almost instantly. I was also awaiting my visit to the Doctor because I was a tad bit sore from falling off my horse yesterday. Once I had finished all of my morning tasks, I went off to find the doctor, before our daily travels began. When I showed up, he appeared to be studying his notes from the night before. He told me about how the star patterns had been funny lately. He also hinted that all his old predictions seemed to be wrong. I had already concluded the Doctor's knowledge to be incorrect. The fact that he didn't really even look at my leg wound the first time, and the fact that there were no stars out when he had predicted my diagnoses allowed me to conclude that he was pretty much a fake. I also was walking the night after my battle wound. He had previously told me I wouldn't be able to walk for a long while. Athough I had been fine, I wasn't so sure that anyone else that got hurt would survive the rest of the journey, with the doctor and all of his false predictions.

After a good night's sleep, I awoke early and headed into the woods for a morning ride. Sometimes I enjoy the surrounding areas, and I often need my alone time, away from all of the other travelers on the pilgrimage. This morning it was just my horse and me. We entered into the forest just as sunrise was occurring. At first the ride was very enjoyable, and I loved the beauty of the forest. Soon after I had just begun to relax, my horse was startled my another creature in the forest. Suddenly, my horse began to buck and kick. I was tossed from my horse and landed upon a large branch that had fallen from a nearby tree. At that moment I thought my days on the pilgrimage were done. My back was in extreme pain, and I was far from the others. I then remembered that Knights continued through agony and pain, and decided that if I too would like to gain the Knight status, I must stand up and head back. In the end my back felt fine. However, I still think I will get my back checked out tomorrow. I am supposed to return to the Doctor anyways in regards to the healing of my leg.

Today was not a good day. Today, I personally had the opportunity to meet the Nun that several of the other travelers had been talking about. The Nun must be the biggest poser ever, and I mean the biggest. She was double the size of a pregnant mere. All she worried about was her dogs. She did not even care about the beggar we passed while our horses trotted down the dirt road. She had one half loaf of bread in her possession, but instead of feeding the beggar, she chose to feed it to her extra hefty sized dogs. The poor man was left to starve. I decided to give him my portion of bread, because I understand the hardships many people face in their life. I was rather hungry the rest of the day, but I was glad I shared with those in need. The Nun went on and on about these so called "fascinating men" she had met all day long. This topic of conversation, seemed very weird to me because she was supposedly a celibate women.

Advice for the day: Looks aren't always everything, or are they?
Well today was one the most boring days so far. I didn't get too much studying in today because I was busy doing tasks Sir. Knightlyhood had commanded me to do for everyone else. I felt like a messenger for a while, all I did was pass messages on from person to the next person. Because I was too busy helping everyone, I did not even have the opportunity to eat more than a few berries today. I talked to the Yeoman for a little, and in that short time he tried to persuade me to quit helping others and train with him. I really didn't want to deny his offer, but I knew that I was in the middle of too many other things to just quit. I began completing my numerous tasks quicker, to leave me enough time to study for awhile. By nightfall, I had finally finished completing everyone else’s chores. I could lay my head down and try to study a little before I could actually fall asleep. A day without studying is a tremendous downfall, it is too difficult to complete the necessary requirements of becoming a Knight without daily studies.

Today I had the opportunity to meet the Miller. The Miller had waxy hair and was very short in stature. He also appeared to be a very strong man. After conversing with the Miller, I had been informed by the other travelers of the Miller's tricks of his trade. I had been told that the Miller adds pressure to the scale with his finger tips, so that he can greater benefit from the sale of his meat and produce. The information I heard concerning the Miller stunned me at first, but I later concluded the stories were actually true. My morals and the chivalric code greatly disagree with cheating others out of their money. For this reason alone, I am going to avoid the Miller in my future travels. If the Miller's unethical morals don't turn you away from him, surely his giant wart on his nose will disgust you.

For the first time in nine days, I finally received ample time to rest. The travelers decided to set up camp for the day. This allowed me to catch up on some sleep, and it also provided me with a break from the daily hectic schedule. The day of rest is exactly what I had needed. I slept for several hours, then enjoyed practicing my bow skills with the Yeoman. The Yeoman, who is a good friend of mine, is a master of hunting. He can shoot the slyest of creatures, with the greatest precision. The Yeoman taught me how to be more accurate with the bow, and how to locate the best places to hunt considering the different patterns of trees. I enjoyed spending time with an old friend, and brushing up on my hunting skills. I must get back to my studies, so long for now.

Today the cook decided to use his talents, and provided a fantastic midday meal for all of the travelers. Although I had not had a lot of contact with the cook until today, I feel that he is a very kind man. Not only did he work very hard to gather all of the food to provide for everyone, but he also created a savory meal that tickled my tastebuds. The most delicious part of the meal was the fresh blueberries served as the last course. The juicy, plump, berries popped in my mouth, and gave me just the right amount of sugar I had needed to continue on the journey. While I aided in the cleanup, I noticed a big sore on the cook's leg. The sore was red and crusted over, and appeared to be very painful. I mentioned to him about seeing the Doctor who had been on the pilgrimage. Hopefully he talks to the Doctor soon, his sore really appeared to have needed medical attention immediately.

After sunrise this morning, we mounted our horses, and continued on our pilgrimage. Today, I rode beside a man named the Pardoner. The Pardoner was very different than anyone else I had met so far. He had worked for the church, and his occupation was selling indulgences as forgiveness for sins. He seemed like a kind man at first, but I later felt very differently about him. He told me how he made a lot of money by selling indulgences to many people at many different prices. I also learned that he didn't bother offering indulgences to the poor people, or to the sick people, because they didn't have enough money to make it worth the Pardoner's time. I then later concluded that the Pardoner was not concerned at all for the church that he had worked for. All his efforts were concentrated towards his own personal gain. The Pardoner had no concern for anyone else. He was truly a man after money. He was truly a man, I never again want to associate with.

I can't even describe today. In the morning the Wife of Bath wanted me to go on a ride with her. I strongly decided against it, I felt as if I would disgrace Sir Knightlyhood if I traveled with such a lady. The Wife of Bath had been married several times before and liked to flirt with all the young men. I just didn't feel that she would be a good woman to be in love with. After I took an extra long time on the completion of all of my daily tasks, I decided that I couldn't just blow her off. I set out on my horse in search of her. By the time I found the wife of bath, it was already midday. Midday meant that it had already been several hours after the time I had promised the Wife of Bath I would meet with her. When she caught sight of me, she just gave me an evil glance. As I approached her horse, I noticed another man to be riding with her. I got off my horse and started over when she stopped me. She very calmly told me that while waiting for me, she had found another young man that was very much intrested in her. Just like that..I was done with older women.

After several long hours of riding my horse, practicing my dance, jousting, and writing poetry, I met an extremely interesting lady. She quickly noticed my exhaustion, but was even quicker to start up a conversation with me. The lady was called The Wife of Bath. After becoming aquainted with her I noticed she was a rather flirtacious lady, who had been married several times before. I concluded the reasons why she had been married to numerous men, after she had told me I possessed a rather admirable and lustful physique, and that I looked very agile and strong. Keep in mind, I had known her for all of about three horse trots, and she had already flattered me with those kind words. Because this was not normal behavior, I judged the lady very quickly. However, at the end of our conversation I did notice that the Wife of Bath was similar to me. I learned that she enjoyed wooing the young men of the town, just as I had enjoyed soaking up all the attention from young ladies. She asked me to ride beside her tomorrow. I am unsure of what tomorrow holds.

Today, I met up with the merchant at our midday break for my therapy. From the time I had first been acquainted with him, he had already been talking about my recovery. As our conversation continued, he informed me that he knew of a certain dance that was sure to help my leg fully recover. The merchant had been enjoying his midday meal with the Oxford Cleric. The Oxford Cleric told me that I must not perform this dance without the necessary needs; for this was a dance that only kings knew about. He also informed me that this dance greatly aided him with his recovery from the stab wound. This certain dance he was chatting about was entitled, The Squire Boy. From hearing all about this exciting dance, I was even more motivated to work extra hard to accomplish my goals. The Oxford Cleric and the Merchant showed me the moves the dance required during our traveling break. While everyone was traveling, I replayed the moves in my head the entire day. As nightfall approached, and our travels concluded for the day, I could not wait to try out my new dance moves. I quickly tied up my horse named Petey, and performed the dance. It was a miracle; I was really starting to feel better about my situation. I cant wait to practice my dance some more tomorrow.

The next morning, before we continued the journey I went to see the doctor. The swelling had decreased greatly from the previous arrow incident, but it was still necesary to seek proper medical attention concerning my wound. Upon arrival to where the Doctor had set up camp, I informed him about my unfortunate accident with the arrow. After he chuckled about my incident, he told me arrow accidents were very common among new squires. When he began to examine my wound, I had noticed an odd behavior the doctor had been performing. He continued to glance upwards for the entire examination, almost as if my wound had been floating in the clouds, rather than located on my leg. As the Doctor gazed up into the sky, he diagnosed me with squarrow infection. He informed me that squarrow infection was a common infection among squires who had arrow wounds. The doctor also told me that if the infection worsens, I will never be able to use my right leg again. He lathered green ointment onto the wound amd gave me a pair of sticks to use as crutches. To my surprise, he told me to give up the squire-hood. At the conclusion of the examination Sir Knightlyhood passed him a handful of coins. As I "crutched" away from him, I realized that becoming a Knight was way to important to me to give up on my ultimate goal. If young Squires often had arrow wounds, then someone must have been through a situation like mine before.
As our traveling for the day continued I met up with the Merchant. He told me how he was stabbed in the leg when he started his career. He did not let the stab wound hold him back. He told me to ride by him tomorrow and he would aide me in my recovery.

Today was an eventful day, I spent most of my day traveling alongside my father, Sir Knightlyhood. I feel as if I've already learned a lot about life on this journey, compared to what I would have learned by completing random tasks around the castle. I am truly glad I took advantage of the opportunity Sir Knightlyhood had presented to me, when he had been talking about a journey to Canterbury.
Upon midday I noticed the Yeoman was practicing his bow and arrow skills. I happened to glance up from under the tree, where I had been studying chivalry. Sir Knightlyhood had decided that I too could use training with the bow, because my aim often times is inaccurate. Because good aim is necessary for a knight to have, he encouraged me to continue to practice. When Sir Knightlyhood had called me over and asked me if I would like a chance to show off my skills, I was very thrilled concerning the opportunity that had been presented to me. I took him up on that offer of course. Immediately after I shot the arrow, I felt a sharp pain racing through my right leg. I looked down, only to catch sight of a very long arrow penetrating into my leg! I had analyzed what had happen, only to realize that I had just shot myself in the leg with an arrow. Sir Knightlyhood raced to search for the Doctor, who had also been traveling on the pilgrimage. He eventually found the doctor; however, he was already sleeping in preperation for the rest of the days travels. I carefully removed the arrow by applying pressure to the penetration sight. After pressure was applied, I grasped the arrow tightly and gave a little tug on the arrow. The arrow did not budge. I then decided that I had to get the arrow out of me soon. I bit my tongue as hard as I could, and slowly began to withdrawl the arrow from my leg.

Advice for the day: Practice, Practice, Practice

In order to become a successful knight one day, I must undergo extensive training as a squire under Sir Knightlyhood. Sir Knightlyhood is said to be the most chivalric knights of the time. Usually my day first begins at dawn where I take caution in preparing a perfect morning feast for the knight's of the round table. At the conclusion of the meal, I normally tidy up the table, and continue on with the day's work. By midday, I usually have already fed twenty-three horses, and I have already begun to clean the stables. Afternoon also consists of various tasks, that Sir Knightlyhood requires me to complete on a daily basis. These tasks include; shining armor, gathering arrows, preparing meals, and analyzing my daily work based upon the chivalric code. Sir Knightlyhood encourages me to use courteous manners in all my daily encounters, especially with young, beautiful women. As sunset occurs, several family members return to the castle, and I would usually prepare the evening feast. After Sir Knightlyhood is well fed, I would normally head to my room to study the chivalric code for a certain time allotment, before I drifted off to sleep. Today was unlike any normal day because we set out on our pilgrimage to Canterbury. After several hours of preparation we were finally on our way. I hope everything goes well on our journey, and maybe I'll even meet a beautiful young lady.
